The City of Edgerton is a fourth class city in the County of Platte, State of Missouri.  The city is governed by an elected board of four Aldermen-at-Large and a Mayor.  Aldermen serve for two-year, alternating terms and the Mayor serves for two years. Edgerton is located along Missouri routes B and Z, and about 3.5 miles west of Hwy 169. The community is 1.5 miles east of the Platte River on Grove Creek. 

In 1871, the Edgerton Land Company, owned by prominent Platte County resident James Nelson Bourne, filed a plat for a town and named it for Chicago railroad attorney Henry Edgerton.
